Carmona, Cavite – A Sporty Haven

By Erika Ayala

When you say Hong Kong, you instantly think of shopping. When you say Japan, you think of high technology and gadgets. When you say Australia, you imagine kangaroos and koala bears. When you say Philippines, you immediately think of the beautiful islands and beaches. Tourists, specifically Koreans, Americans, Europeans and other nationalities go to the Philippines to experience a different kind of ambiance and weather. They need to get a tan and feel the tropical weather of the Philippines by going to the famous beaches like Boracay, Puerto Galera and Palawan. But what not everyone knows, Philippines is not only a country full of spectacular beaches. One of the reasons why tourists visit Philippines is because of their world class golf courses.

Carmona, Cavite is the town where I have seen a really cool golf course. It is called Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club. Since I play golf, I make myself aware of these places. Manila Southwoods claim that they are the first golf course in the Asia Pacific region certified to ISO. If you visit the place, you will be amazed with the two-course golf haven designed by golfing legend Jack Nicklaus. You wouldn't think that you are in a third world country as you see the golf course in Carmona, Cavite. In addition to the facts about Manila Southwoods, it is actually considered as one of the world's best golf courses. No doubt golf enthusiasts pay off a visit to Carmona just to play golf.

I didn't expect to see a place like that in Carmona. Besides, Carmona is not even famous when you talk about Philippines. As what I have mentioned earlier, people will naturally talk about beaches in the Philippines and never include Carmona as one of the preferred places to visit. Now, I realized that it is important to make some research and go to the place itself, not simply relying on people you talk to. In Carmona, I didn't only have a great time playing golf but also enjoyed a bunch of other sports.

Manila Southwoods Sports Club, the place I visited after playing golf. It was the perfect place for me since I love playing sports. There wasn't a time I got bored because I was able to swim, play tennis, badminton, and try out their full-service gym. What a haven for all sports enthusiasts, not only for golfers. Not only that, what I love about this place is their wall climbing and paint ball arena. I was able to meet new friends while playing paint ball. At first, I had a hard time but after several tries, I felt like a pro already. Never did I think that Carmona can give me all these leisure and enjoyment.

After experiencing Carmona's Manila Southwoods, the first action I did was too announce to my friends what happened to me in that place. After hearing all of my stories, my friends didn't think twice and told me they wanted to join me. Like a happy little girl, I was completely excited to go back to my so called “sports haven in Carmona”.
