To Run is To Gain
By Erika Ayala
Running is not about being fast. Running is all about health and wellness. Whenever you talk about running, my ears open up and my mouth becomes ready to speak up. I tend to be alert and join the conversation. I can talk about anything under the sun, most especially in the area of running. Since I was in college, I've been running almost every night. In the beginning, I only ran about 1.5 km. I know, that was so fast. Because of training, I improved. 1.5 km became 5 km each time I run. Normally, I spend about 30 minutes. But now, since I am already used to running 5km, the average is already 20 minutes. People ask me why I run. The basic answer I tell everyone is this: “I get sick if I don't run”, not necessarily if I may explain. My body is used to being active. That means I need to engage myself in active sports like boxing, volleyball, swimming, and the like. Ever since my schedule became too preoccupied, I didn't have enough time for my sports anymore. I needed to choose a sport that is the most convenient and accessible. Hence, I landed to the sport of running. Running is beneficial for everyone, especially if you don't want to spend. All you need in running is your sports wear which includes your running shoes, comfortable top and bottoms plus your energetic self. At any time, I can run all I want. Unlike other sports, it's hard to manage my schedule because I have to go to the gym, sports center, etc. Indeed, there is no hassle for me to choose this sport. I just have to go out of the house, run around my village and I'm all good. In addition, running is also good for the health, just like other sports. The exercise I get from running makes my muscles stronger and improves my endurance. This is good as I am growing up. As we all know, when we age, our body gets weaker and our energy sinks down. I know that fact that's why as much as I can, I pursue to exercise regularly for health benefits. I encourage everyone to engage in sport of running. This is one of the easiest, most accessible and cheapest sport I can think of. No matter how old or how young you are, running can be for you. Try to start fun runs to know what I mean. You can enjoy this sport as you run along with your friends and loved ones. Or if you want to be alone, it's a good time for yourself too. Overall, running can be fun, exciting and beneficial. All you have to do now, is start gearing up and run as much as you can. |

I only run in my dreams now, but I do walk every day. Does that count?
